One thing that never gets old for me is the adventure of photographing outdoor mountain sports.
I am energized and inspired by getting out of the office and studio, getting on location and finding ways to capture images in what may be challenging and sometimes downright difficult scenarios.
Combine the love of photographing mountain sports with a 14 year tradition that is the GoPro Mountain Games…now that’s an epic combo! Mountain sports meets one of a kind location meets off the hook concert lineups and what you get is one huge friggin ball of an active mountain scene waiting to be photographed!
So, all in all, we have been invited to cover the event for the past 6 years…and every time when I return I get asked…”What the hell are you all doing out there?” or “What is there to shoot in Vail in the summer?”
Well to be honest, I’ve never been great at words, so I thought I’d show you! Here are a couple videos…one from ’14 and one from ’15 that should show you why I’m so stoked to go back every year. Not to mention now that GoPro is on board and we’re capturing it like NEVER before using different methods from DSLR cameras to GoPro’s providing photos in darn near real time. We’ve even got a 20’ pole that we put out over the Steep Creek Whitewater shooting kayaks as they dart over some massive drops.
I feel truly blessed and priveledged that the Vail Valley Foundation, GoPro and the town of Vail bring us out from our “Where the hell are you all from again” town here in Northern Kentucky.
See below a few shots from the catalog of images we built while there.
