Trevi Fountain - RomeLegend holds that a coin thrown into the fountain will ensure a return trip to Rome. This tradition dates back to the Roman times, when they often threw coins into the water to make the gods of water favor their journey or help them get back home safely. Other legends hold that throwing in a second coin will find you love and a third will find you a spouse.
Legend or not, the fountain does help people every day. Over €3,000/day are thrown into the fountain. That money is given to a local charity to help feed the needy of Rome and buy them groceries.
